Signals Made Ashore
This information is an extract from the Trearddur Bay Sailing Club Year Book and Sailing Instructions. The extract has been provided here for convenience but is not an official source of information. For the avoidance of doubt, if there are any differences between this information and that contained within the Club Year Book then the Club Year Book takes precedence.
Flag signals made ashore will be displayed from the Trearddur Bay Sailing Club (TBSC) Flagstaff.
Main Racing Decisions
On race days, the Officer of the Day (OOD) will signal his/her decision at 08:00 (13:00 for a scheduled afternoon race or 15:00 for a scheduled evening race).
The following flag signals may be made from the TBSC Flagstaff on race days:
- Club Flag - Intention to hold races; or
- Club Flag plus Flag D - Extra Race; or
- Old Club Flag plus Flag Q - Decision Later; or
- Old Club Flag, Flag Q plus Fag X - Evening Race Decision Later; or
- Flag I over First Substitute - Optimists Abandoned; or
- Flag N - Racing Abandoned for the day; or
- Old Club Flag, Flag D, Flag Q plus Flag N - Morning Scheduled Race Abandoned, Afternoon Extra Race Decision Later or Morning Extra Race Abandoned, Afternoon Race Decision Later; or
- Flag T - If two races are scheduled for the same day and Flag T is flown, the races will be run back-to-back
This changes the meaning of Race Signals: Flags N, Q, T, X and First Substitute.
In a change to RRS 32.1, the OOD may abandon the race for a particular class by displaying Flag N over the relevant Class Flag with two sound signals from the Flagstaff. This changes the meaning of Race Signals: Flag N, Flag N over Flag H and Flag N over Flag A.
A scheduled Cup Race will take priority over all other races.
Decisions Later
When, in the judgement of the OOD, there is a reasonable possibility of weather moderating sufficiently to allow racing to proceed later, the Old Club Flag will be hoisted, supplemented by a Flag Q, the two flags being flown as far apart as possible.
If the OOD wishes to make a decision in time for afternoon racing, he/she will signify by 13:00 either by housing the Club Flag that the races will will take place at the usual afternoon staring times or by hoisting Flag N that racing is abandoned for the day.
If at 13:00 there is a reasonable possibility of the weather moderating to allow racing to take place later, the Old Club Flag, Flag Q and Flag X will be hoisted. The OOD with signify by 15:00 either by hoisting the Club Flag that races will take place at the usual evening times or hoisting Flag N indicating that racing is abandoned for the day.
Class Decisions
If the OOD judges it unsuitable for Optimist racing, the Optimist Flag (Flag I) will be hoisted over the First Substitute Flag to indicate no Optimist racing that day.
If the OOD wishes to race only certain classes, the Club Flag will be hoisted with the flag(s) of the classes that are to be raced.
